Ever wonder if baptism is really part of the salvation process? More than likely, your church preaches that it isn’t. That is understandable as the Catholic Church removed all such truths from the Christian teachings. Scripture advises us to “try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world” and we have to “search the scriptures for in them, we think we have eternal life”. The Holy Scriptures will always be true and men liars. Let us search the scripture together and see what it says.

2 Timothy 3:16
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

There are three baptisms recorded in the scripture. Baptism is part of salvation and there are two ways to get it. The right way and the wrong way for there is nothing in between. So ask yourself the same question that the Apostle Paul asked the disciples of John. He asked “How where you then baptized?” So ask yourself, “What kind of baptism do you have?”, “What did the Preacher say when he dunked you into the water?”

The Baptism Of Moses

The first baptism was the baptism of Moses.

1 Corinthians 10:1-2
1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

Israel was baptized in the cloud and in the sea unto Moses, their leader. However, Moses is not here anymore so his baptism has expired. His baptism was a shadow of good things to come. His baptism could not wash your sins away for Moses’ name had no power to forgive.

The Baptism Of John

The second baptism was the baptism of John. John was a prophet filled with the Spirit from his mother’s womb. John’s purpose on earth was to baptize.

Mark 1:3
The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

When John baptized, he baptized unto repentance. John’s baptism could not take away your sins either for his name had no power to forgive. John said the he was to decrease as someone else would come who would increase. He also said that he that would come would baptize with the Holy Ghost.

The Final Baptism

Moses’ baptism is outdated and John’s baptism is outdated but here comes the boss with the final baptism unto salvation by His name, Jesus, God manifested in a body. God wanted His will known here on earth so here comes Jesus; better than Moses, better than John, better than all the prophets of old. He was born, He died, He rose and He stuck around to teach the Apostles more information from beyond the grave.

He commanded that repentance and remission of sins was to be preached in His name beginning in Jerusalem (How did they begin to preach in Jerusalem?) This is the world’s famous scripture that every Religion knows by heart.

Matthew 28:19
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

You may be saying to yourself “Well that is exactly how I was baptized. I have done exactly what Jesus said to do.” Have you really? If I were to say to someone “Go deliver this package in my name.” Then you go and deliver the package to a person and say “Here is a package from Brother.” or “Here is a package from Messenger, Preacher or even just his name” That’s not my name. If I say do it in my name you have to use my name (Ever) to do it.

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” About 90% of Churches have not been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

In Whose Name?

…In the name of…

The word “of” is a word of possession. Webster’s defines it as

used as a function word to indicate the component material, parts, or elements or the contents.

used as a function word to indicate belonging or a possessive relationship

…baptize in the name OF…

There is a name that belongs to the “titles” Father, Son and Holy Ghost. This one name is owner of these three titles. “Of” means “I am in possession OF”. We are to baptized in the “NAME of”, which is a singular name.

So what is that name of which we should be baptized in? Well let’s break down what the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost are.

The Father’s Name

Father is a title that thousands here on earth have. So we cannot assume that saying father automatically means God. So we will focus directly on the Father above all fathers. Scripture says we have but one Father.

Matthew 23:9
And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

Ephesians 4:6
One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

Is God not our Father? God created all. He is our father, which is His title or His function and operation. Father means creator or originator so that makes God our Father. This is true also for an earthly father. When a man begats a son or daughter, he begins a role as father as he was the originator or “creator” of the child.

Jesus said:

John 5:43
I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

He said that he came in his Father’s name. “In” His Father’s name. So the name of His Father was wrapped around the person of Jesus. Let’s look at Acts 7:59 when Stephen was being stoned for boldly preaching the Gospel.

Acts 7:59
And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.

He was calling upon God and called Him “Lord Jesus”. The name of the Father is Jesus. God himself throughout the Old Testament prophesied that he would raise a tabernacle where he would place His Name. That tabernacle was the person of Jesus.

The Son’s Name

The name given to the baby birthed from Mary was not a name from earth. It was a name that was reserved from the foundation of the earth. When God manifested himself in the flesh, the flesh took on an inherited name.

Hebrews 1:4
Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

The flesh came in God’s name and the Angel delivered that name to Mary.

Luke 1:31
And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.

“shalt call his name Jesus.” A command brought to Mary straight from Heaven. God made the flesh, the flesh took God’s name, Jesus. The reason for this is so you would know who and how that flesh was operating with and under.

The Holy Ghost’s Name

We have the Father’s name and know that the Son inherited that same name. Let’s see how the name was transferred back to God.

John 14:26
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name..

The Holy Ghost or God would come back as the comforter, another title of God, in His own name.

Name Above All

There is no power in any other name on earth that can take away the sins but the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. It is clear to see that this name is working as one single element and is not shared between 3 different persons in some made believe Godhead. God is the only head and there is only one name.

Acts 4:12
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

This name is a name from Heaven and that name is in Heaven saving people. When we pray in the name of Jesus, we are commanded to be praying to the Father in His name.

When the Son commissioned us to go out in Matthew, there was no baptism perform in that manner yet. The commission was given and the Apostles went straight to Jerusalem to wait for the promise of the Father. So not one person was ever baptized the way the commission stated. Yet, we were commanded to go do exactly that. So when did it start and how did it start?

Acts 2:38
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Compare to Matthew 28:19 “baptizing them in the name of…”

The name of the Father Son and Holy Ghost is Jesus Christ.

There is no salvation in the titles Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Sin can not be removed in these titles. It is not the same thing, If his name is above all other names then the name is superior than all his titles.

Examine Places That Baptism Was Performed In Scripture.

Acts 2:38
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 10:44-48
44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

Cornelius was a God fearing Gentile that wanted God to reach him. He prayed until an Angel appeared who called for Peter. Peter came to Cornelius but get this.. The Angel said “he (Peter) will tell you what you ought to do”.

When Peter came to Cornelius’ house Peter began to preach. Scripture says ”While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word”. God honored the message that Peter brought to the house of Cornelius. Peter hadn’t yet told them what they ought to do.

They spoke in tongues but that wasn’t going to slide with Peter. Scripture says that “He commanded them..” This was a requirement from Peter to be baptized in the name of the Lord. It wasn’t enough for them to only receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost without the baptism in water.

The Elements

It takes two elements for the new birth. John 3 states that “except a man be born of water and spirit..” that no one would be able to see nor enter the kingdom of God.

Mark 16:16
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

When you have the Holy Ghost, you only have spirit. You have not received the water element yet until you have been water baptized. Since you have not been baptized in the water, you still remain in your sin.

Holy Ghost does not wash away your sins for it is the blood that washes away your sin.

Hebrews 9:22
… and without shedding of blood is no remission.

They pierced him in his side and out came blood and water. Without the shedding of blood there is no remission. You need both the father and the Son.

2 John 1:9
Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

The Father is the Spirit and the Son is the water.

1 John 5:6a
This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood

Baptism in the name of Jesus Christ happens after you believe not when you decide to show the world that you “accepted Him into your heart”.

Acts 8:12-13
But *when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and ***the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized***, both men and women.
13 Then Simon himself ***believed also: and when he was baptized***, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.

What To Do

Please consider what was said concerning water baptism. The enemy has worked so hard to remove the truth from the pulpit but the word of God is quick, and powerful and will never be lost. If you have not been baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, I urge you do that today.
